He was predeceased by: his parents, Donald Rye and Susan Rye (Selenski); and his brother Donnie Rye. He is survived by: his wife Bonnie Werpy-Rye of Brookings, SD; his children, Jason Werpy (Anne) of Brookings, SD, Joe Rye of Sugar Hill, GA, Matthew Werpy (Megan) of Rapid City, SD, Aaron Werpy (Jena) of Brookings, SD and Maria Scott (Jonathan) of Atlanta, GA; and his siblings, David Rye (Monica) of Waterville, MN, Carolyn Proehl of Winthrop, MN, Margaret Loveless (Steve) of Maplewood, MN and Suzzette Tyson of Hastings, MN. He is also survived by many other nieces, nephews and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer (2001 2nd Street W, Watertown, SD 57201) or Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1054 (P.O. Box 1062, Watertown, SD 57201) where he was a lifetime member and proud to be a member of the group.
