He was predeceased by : his parents, Harry Joseph Waldner and Lydia Mae Waldner. He is survived by : his wife Josephine I. Waldner of Brookings; his daughters, Dawn Jo Taylor (Bill) of Volga, SD and Gail LeAnn Gullickson (Jason) of Flandreau, SD; his grandchildren, Grady, Gage Gullickson and Lauren Taylor; his brother Raymond Waldner (Diane) of Worthington, MN; his niece Robyn Moser; and his nephew Stephen Waldner.

Memorials may be directed to the SDSU Foundation in memory of Richard Waldner.
