We announce the death of Shirley Jean Wheeler of Brookings, South Dakota, who passed away on October 5, 2026, at the age of 90. Shirley will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. She was predeceased by: her parents, Fred W. Cole and Louise M. Cole (Hicks); her husbands, Donald D. Cary and Leigh Wheeler; her son Fred Cary; her children-in-law, Cindy Cary and Charles Demoulin; her granddaughter Crystal Demoulin; and her sisters, Dorothy Stiben (Vern), Anna May Christian and Joan Upton (Rick).
She is survived by: her children, Jeff Cary of Denver, CO, Shirlene Thompson (Robert) of Brookings, SD and Louann DeMoulin of Denver, CO. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 19th 2026 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Rude's Funeral Home (105 W 8th St S, Brookings, SD 57006). A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 19th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
