He was predeceased by: his parents, Belvin Kempfert and Florence Kempfert (Kramer); his wife Carol Rettmann; and his siblings, Warren Kempfert and Mary Ortloff.
He is survived by: his children, Tammy Kempfert (Ron Jetty) of Madison, WI, Barry Kempfert (Charlotte) of Hudson, WI and Tricia Kempfert of Valencia, CA; his grandsons, Charles Jetty, Jacob Kempfert (Emma), Benjamin Kempfert (Jennifer) and Kyle Chapman; his great grandchildren, Kroy, Knox and Millie Kempfert; and his sisters, Susan Mackedanz of Hutchinson, MN and Cyndi Smith of Hutchinson, MN. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Thursday, July 17th 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Eidsness Funeral and Cremation Services (1617 Orchard Dr, Brookings, SD 57006). A funeral service was held on Friday, July 18th 2025 at 10:30 AM at the Ascension Lutheran Church (2030 3rd St, Brookings, SD 57006). A burial was held on Friday, July 18th 2025 at the First Lutheran Cemetery (337 8th St, Brookings, SD 57006).
