We bid farewell to Wendell Thompson (Brookings, South Dakota), whose journey of life gracefully concluded on October 21, 2025 at the age of 79. Wendell touched countless lives with warmth and kindness, leaving behind cherished memories that will forever echo in hearts. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Kenneth Thompson and Matilda Balster Thompson (Til); and his brother Leland. He is survived by: his wife Marlys Carlson (Marly); his sons, Nate (Deb), David (Milwaukee) and Ash (Andy); his grandchildren, Brandt, Claire, Oscar and Evelyn; his brother Lowell (Ruth); and his sister-in-law Jean of Howard, SD.

A celebration of life was held on Monday, October 27th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the McCrory Gardens Education and Visitor Center (631 22nd Ave, Brookings, SD 57006).

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent directly to the Brookings Humane Society (http://www.brookingshumane.org) or to the Wendell and Marlys Thompson Music Scholarship (http://www.sdsufoundation.org) or a charity of choice.
