It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Thomas L Gilles of Caputa, South Dakota, who passed away on July 28, 2024, at the age of 91, leaving to mourn family and friends. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Thomas L Gilles to pay them a last tribute.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert Gilles and Anna Gilles (Schmitz); his daughter Judy Padgett; and his siblings, Leonard, Albert Gilles (Pete) and Iris Womack.

He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Gilles; his children, Jeri Roberts, Jim Gilles, Joe Gilles and Jean Phillips; and his sister Rosemary Campbell Smith. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

“Continuing on, after my wife had passed away in 2015, I started occasionally to eat at Millstone Restaurant, eastside, with my mom. We would see Tommy and Carolyn there who would often times be seated with Claire and Joanne Montgomery. We would stop by and say hi, maybe share a gossip or two. Sad to see the older generation of parents and loved ones passing from this life. What has helped me process a loss of a spouse is writing a journal of all the good events, and even the bad. It may help.”

“Hi, my name is Ronald Cordes, eldest son of Thelma and Robert (Bob) Cordes. Dad was a long time friend of Tommy during high school and afterwards, I believe, even after they both went into the military. We kids, myself, Ronda Cordes-Bower, Bob Cordes, and I am not sure about our youngest Brother Billy, would go to your house and play with Jeri-Lynn, Judy (I think), Jim, Joe, and I am sorry don't remember Jean at your place just east of what is now I-190.
