He was predeceased by: his parents, Peter Plaats and Winnie Vander Plaats (Van Hunnik); his wife Ann Meyerink; and his siblings, Andrew (Tena), John (Toni), Florence Van Kekerix (Harry) and Margaret Reurink (Hank).
He is survived by: his children, Pat Benson (Dale), Bev Van Hofwegen (Chuck), Dawn Beiswanger (Duane) and Brenda Thue; and his grandchildren, Jared Van Hofwegen, Zach Benson (Laura), Chris Beiswanger (Kara), Andy Beiswanger (Diana), Jordan Voss (Tate), Ethan and Chloe Thue. He is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren, and other extended family.
Visitation was held on Thursday, April 24th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Minnehaha Funeral Home of Colton (205 E 4th St, Colton, SD 57018). A funeral service was held on Friday, April 25th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Colton Cemetery. A memorial service was held on Friday, April 25th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Faith Community Church (200 S Minnesota Ave, Colton, SD 57018).
