He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter DeWaard and Pearl DeWaard (Kuyper); his son Gary; his brothers-in-law, Floyd Scholten and Alvin Ledeboer; and his parents-in-law, Fred and Caryl Assmus.
He is survived by: his wife LuAnn DeWaard; his children, Riley DeWaard (Jenna Latham) of Stickney, Benjamin DeWaard (Chelsea) of Sioux Falls and Olivia Cotton (Steven) of Wagner; his grandchildren, Collins DeWaard, Lennon DeWaard, Henry Cotton, Frederick Cotton and McKenna Cotton; and his siblings, Shirley Scholten of Harlingen, Texas, Charlene Ledeboer of Kamiah, Idaho and Gloria Plooster (Robert) of Harrison.
Visitation was held on Friday, September 25th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Lighthouse Fellowship Church (660 N Van't Haaff, Corsica, SD 57328). A prayer was held on Friday, September 25th 2026 from 7:00 PM to 7:30 PM at the same location. A celebration of life was held on Saturday, September 26th 2026 at 10:30 AM at the same location. A committal service was held on Saturday, September 26th 2026 from 11:30 AM to 11:45 AM at the Harrison City Cemetery (27222 383rd Ave, Harrison, SD 57334).
