He was predeceased by : his parents, Genevieve Akrop (Duchene) and Paul Akrop. He is survived by : his siblings, David Akrop and Mary Ann Oberlander (Bruce); his nephew Michael Oberlander (Angela); his great-nephew Matthew; his great-niece Sarah; his niece Lisa Jorgenson (Jason); his great-niece Genevieve; his great-nephews, Andrew and Benjamin; his niece Julie Gibbons (Jeremy); and his great-nephews, Luke and Jonathon.

A memorial has been established for Black Hills Regional Ski for Light.
