We announce the death of Larry J. Schnabel of Eureka, South Dakota, who passed away on July 1, 2026, at the age of 74. Larry will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. He was predeceased by: his parents, Violet Schnabel (Moser) and Johnnie G. Schnabel; his parents-in-law, Leo and Imogene Hieb; and his brothers-in-law, Gerald and Kelvin Hieb.
He is survived by: his wife Judy Hieb; his children, Thomas Schnabel (Meghan) of Eureka and Kristie Funk (Darrick) of Westport, SD; his sister Susan Holzwarth (Mark) of Mound City, SD; his siblings-in-law, Bill Hieb of Armour, SD and Kathy Speirs (Jerry) of Rapid City, SD; his grandchildren, James, Hunter Wyly, Peyton, Mallory, Danyelle and Korbyn Schnabel; his cousin Tom Guthmiller of Coon Rapids, MN; his nephews, Dustin Jahraus of Mound City and Tyler Ochsner of Herreid, SD; his friends, Tony Skjefte of Aberdeen, SD and Tyler Were of Brookings, SD; and his great-nephew Jeremiah Jahraus of Mound City. He is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
