He was predeceased by : his parents, Norman Smith and Katie Smith (Bruns); his brothers, Virgil, Calvin and Arven Smith; his siblings-in-law, Don Krogman, Alvin Leisinger, Kermith Johnson, Neil Simmons and Betty Smith; his nephew Brad Smith; and his parents-in-law, Loren and Lois Simmons (Aaberg).
He is survived by : his wife Nancy Simmons; his children, Katrina of Gettysburg, Lucas of White and Aaron of Gettysburg; his siblings, Steven Smith (Judy), Norma Krogman of Elkton, SD, Shirley Leisinger of Lebanon, OR, Arlene Robbins (Rick) of Wheatland, WY and Nancy Johnson of Abilene, TX; and his sisters-in-law, Carol Smith of Elkton, SD, Rose Simmons of Sandy, UT, Cheryl Beste (Doug) of Brookings, SD, Linda Simmons Patrick of Aurora, SD and Jan Simmons of Wayne, NE. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
