It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Livestream David R. Beukelman of Harrison, South Dakota, who passed away on February 5, 2022, at the age of 79, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by : his parents, Cora Beukelman and Verne Beukelman of Harrison; his parents-in-law, Corstiaan and Katherine DeWaard; and his brother Roy Beukelman.

He is survived by : his wife Helen DeWaard; his children, Julie Johnson (Jim) of Pella, Jeff Beukelman (Cynthia) of Lincoln and Jonathan Beukelman (Jami) of Denver, Colorado.; his grandchildren, Brannon, Seth, Cecily Johnson, Sierra, Drew, McKinley Beukelman, Luke, Graham and Audrey Beukelman; and his great grandchildren, Merrick and Marlowe Johnson.

In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital Foundation, Assistive Technology Center, and Hope Community Church.

“Dr. Beukelman arrived at the Barkley Memorial Center in the mid 1980’s when I was there as a graduate student. At the time we were amazed at his vast knowledge in a area of communication disorders which was vastly growing at the time due to the explosion of technology. Only now do I realize that he was expert sharing his craft at an age much younger than I am today. My prayer is that I can serve others as he did so humbly with my understanding of all he taught me.
