Harold Gerdes Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Harold Gerdes of Hecla, South Dakota, born in Britton, South Dakota, who passed away on January 18, 2021, at the age of 71, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was loved and cherished by many people including : his parents, Herman Gerdes and Ramona Gerdes (Lunzman); his grandfather Hei Gerdes; his wife Susan Zastrow; his daughter Jessica Rud (Ryan) of Buffalo, MN; his grandchildren, Justin, Avery, Olivia and Grant; his daughter Sarah Gruber (Ryan) of Brandon, SD; his grandchildren, Gracyn, Abby, Emma and Brooke; and his brothers, Harlen Gerdes of Montana, Gale Gerdes of Colorado and Carson Gerdes of Hecla.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to SPURS Therapeutic Riding Center.

Barry Schafer wrote a sympathy message

“To the family of Harold Gerdes, we didn’t have the honor of knowing Harold very well but we were privileged thru Wayne and Jean Nelson to have met him last winter in Arizona. Our son Bryce Schafer roped out at his ranch south of Maricopa last February. Such a gentlemen and so friendly. Our deepest sympathies and prayers go with all of you in the loss of this wonderful man. Barry and Nancy Schafer (Sentinel Butte ND)”
