He was predeceased by: his parents, Bernhard Semmler and Marie Semmler (Laib); his sisters, Janette Poplau (Ray), Betty Anderson (Norman), Della Thompson (Morris) and Ella Crane; and his cousin Newt Semmler.

He is survived by: his son Andrew Lee Semmler of Mitchell, SD; his wife Jean Nowell (Lovett) of Hitchcock; his children, Kathryn Schaunaman (Lee) of Aberdeen, SD, Kenneth Nowell (Tammy) of Hitchcock, Ronald Nowell of Hitchcock and Christine Evans (Brian) of Colton, SD.; his grandchildren, Amanda Dolan, Joshua Nowell (Kasey), Staci Thota (Sreedhar), Jordan Nowell (Rachael), Justin Hull (Naomi), John Nowell (Koree), Dominic Frisbie (Andrew), Jeremy Nowell (Emily), Spencer Hull (Rosevin), Caleb Evans (Ashley), Aaron (Bethany Biryukova), Kendra Layne (Joseph), Ethan Evans, Matthew Evans and Ian Evans; his brother Martin Semmler of Helena, MT; and his brother-in-law Ronald Crane of Cheyenne, WY.. He is also survived by 27 great-grandchildren.

George gave the gift of life through organ and tissue donation.
