He was predeceased by: his parents, Iver Grove and Mae Grove (Johnson); his wife Carol Ann Sapp; his children, Charlene and Jeffrey; his sister Bernita Werner; his siblings-in-law, Velma Johnson, Betty Groce, Dorothy Groce, Eldon Berg, Marvin Werner, Roger Sapp, Allen Sapp and Delbert Sapp; and his grandson Kurt Hagemann.

He is survived by: his daughters, Janell Milton (Terry), Debra Roddel (James), Darla Adolphsen (Arlyn) and Amy Jo Remmele (Tom); his sister Illa Berg; and his brother-in-law Darrell Sapp. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren.

Lyle volunteered his time on church boards, Bethel Home Governing and Foundation Boards and Howard Federal Credit Union.
