He was predeceased by: his parents, Wilbur "Willie" Dean Welke and Jean Welke; and his siblings, Jack and Debbie. He is survived by: his former wife Margie Rose Nelson; his children, Tina Janel Welke of Minneapolis, MN, Traci Jo Welke of Rice, MN., Zander Costello and Zavier Costello; his spouse Mike Mathies; his sons, Camdin Carlson-Mathies, Dominic Mathies, Cohen Mathies and Beckam Mathies; and his sisters, Diane Martin and Jill Armstrong.

“The first message was from Jim. From Jackie: David was always filled with such energy and fun. When my mother, Lucille Robinson, taught him catechism, she would say, "That boy has ants in his pants!!!" David was a caring person. More than once when we went back for a family member's funeral, David would be there with kind memories to share. Our sympathy goes out to the Welke family who we share so many warm memories with from growing up in our hometown of Frankfort. Blessings to all.”
