He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Madsen and Violet Madsen (Krumvieda); his wife Esther; his grandson Jared; and his siblings, Bobby, Rose Ann Price, Janice Alderany and Kathy Larson.

He is survived by: his children, Vickie Harty (Emmett) of De Smet, James Madsen (Mary Jo) of Apple Valley and Scott Madsen (Betsy) of Aberdeen; his grandchildren, Christina Castillo (Nick), Jamie Harty and Erik Lageson; his children, Sophia, Eva, Gianna, Leo and Gabriel Madsen; his great grandchildren, Jayden, Alijah, Grace Castillo, Atticus and Elaina Rivera; and his siblings, Don Madsen (LaDonna), Leroy Madsen, Larry Madsen (Judy) and Betty Kelchen. He is also survived by many in-laws, nieces and nephews.
