He was predeceased by: his parents, Kenneth Gist and Margaret Gist (Northem); his sister Susan; and his stepson Ben Svien. He is survived by: his wife Cindy of Huron; his stepdaughter Mya Svien of Wisconsin; his brothers, Tim Gist of Kaylor, SD and Chris Gist (Julie) of Lancaster, WI; and his pets, Bonnie and Zoomie.
