He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence Hammerstrom and Esther Hammerstrom (Marks); his former wife Mary Ann Hammerstrom (Smidt); his children, David Hammerstrom and Lori Clow; his stepchildren, Tim Adams and Teresa Adams; his siblings, Carol Smidt (Robert), Alvin Hammerstrom (Delores) and Harold Hammerstrom (Florence); and his sister-in-law June Smith.
He is survived by: his wife Betty Hammerstrom (Jibben) of Lennox; his children, Daryl Hammerstrom (Barbara) of Davis and Susan Hammerstrom of Weatherford, Texas; his stepson Thomas Adams (Catherine) of La Jolla, CA; his grandsons, Rick Hammerstrom (Tracie), Randy Hammerstrom (Erin) and Rodney Hammerstrom (Tiffany); his stepgrandchildren, Trevor, Mellissa and Samantha; his great grandchildren, Callie, Brodie, Cash, Bailee and Hunter; his stepgreat-grandchildren, Morgan, Charlie and Tommie; and his brother Verlyn Hammerstrom (Karen) of Sheldon, IA..
He went from doing farming, to milking over 40 cows, to driving teams, and giving wagon rides for the Make-A-Wish Foundation in Sioux Falls.
