He was predeceased by : his parents, Martha Marion Waltman (Schmidt) and Jacob Waltman; and his siblings, Martin, Alfred, Robert, Michael, Eddie, Bernice Schwan, Elnora Barker and Marie Waltman.

He is survived by : his wife Caroline "Kelli" Crompton; his children, Brenda Smith (Scott) of Falls City, OR, Rhonda Entzie (Ron) of Lehr, ND and Robert Waltman (Jodi) of Leola, SD; his grandchildren, Jessica Culver (John), Joshua Smith (Naomi), Tiffany Smith, Amanda Martin (Britt), Benjamin Smith, April Smith, Autumn Smith, Shannon Bistline (Benjamin), Ashley Ganje Rose (Matthew), Logan Hanna, Allison Lucas, Olivia Waltman, Luke Waltman and Jackson Waltman; his great grandchildren, Alexandra, Aria, Ava, Alder Bistline, Wylder Rose, Amelia, Travis, Caleb Smith and Richard; and his siblings, Jack Waltman (Connie) of Leola, Hank Waltman (Pat) of Aberdeen, Frank Waltman (Jan) of Aberdeen and Judi Rauscher (Duane) of Sioux Falls, SD. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
