She was predeceased by: her parents, Andy Poppen and Edna Poppen (Hutt); her husband Jim Thompson; her brother Duane Poppen; her siblings-in-law, Bob Thompson and Mary Stoffel; her friend Elva Witt; and her pet Ruby.
She is survived by: her children, David Thompson (Lynette Nelson) and Carol Barger (Mark); her grandchildren, Nicholas Barger (Julia Pittman), Nathan Barger (Allison Schriever), Travis Anderson, Tyler Nelson (Sara) and Tarren Nelson; her great grandchildren, Treyton, Kydon Nelson and Averi Schriever; her brother Maurice Poppen (Alice); and her siblings-in-law, Bev Poppen, Sharon Thompson, Jan Thompson, Nancy Torkelson and Bill Torkelson. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, extended family, and many longtime friends.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 21st 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Ellsworth Funeral Home (321 Egan Ave N, Madison, SD 57042). A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 22nd 2026 at 10:30 AM at the Madison United Methodist Church (304 Egan Ave N, Madison, SD 57042). A burial will be held on Tuesday, September 22nd 2026 at the Graceland Cemetery.
