He is survived by: his wife Beverly (Sorfonden); his children, Sandi Schwader (Tony), Wendy Steffen (Todd) and Dan Poppen (Sara); his grandchildren, Danielle Leighton (Jordon), Kelsey Oechsle (Wade), Andrew Schwader (Shelby), Bradyn Steffen (Michaela), Braxton Steffen, Cade Poppen and Justine Schulte (Mason); his great grandchildren, Ella, Aria, Asher Leighton, Kip, Kora, Koen Oechsle, Saylor, Rowyn Schwader, Luke, Tate, Lainey Steffen and Emeric Schulte; his siblings, Maury Poppen (Alice) and Bertie Thompson; and his sisters-in-law, Connie Klein (Butch) and Joan Sorfonden. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, extended family, and many longtime friends.
Visitation was held on Sunday, August 30th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Ellsworth Funeral Home (321 Egan Ave N, Madison, SD 57042). A funeral service was held on Monday, August 31st 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Madison United Methodist Church (304 Egan Ave N, Madison, SD 57042).
