He was predeceased by: his father Ronald Gades; his mother-in-law Cordelia "Cordy" Hegstrom (Anderson); his brothers-in-law, Paul Hegstrom (Judy), Jerry Hegstrom (Cindy) and Charlie Boe; and his niece Tiffany.

He is survived by: his mother Shirley Gades (Van Horn); his spouse Lynn Hegstrom; his sons, Brandon Gades (Renae), Brent Gades (Jenny), Blake Gades (Brittany) and Bryce Gades (Robin); his grandchildren, Briley, Emily, Alyssa, Henry, Hunter, Eleanor, Avery, Kinsley, Kimber and Allie; his siblings, Keith Gades (LuAnn), Gail Boe and Becky Gades (Jim); and his brother-in-law John Hegstrom (Karen).
