He is survived by: his grandchildren, Noah, Sarah Young, John Steinhaus, Andrew, Autumn and Aaron Hoffman; his wife Velma Schauer of Mitchell; his children, Karla Young (Randy) of League City, Texas, Kari Steinhaus (John) of Sioux Falls, Kayleen Elliott (Rick) of Millersburg, Ohio, Kandice Hoffman (Rod) of Dupree and Karl "KJ" Schauer of Mitchell; and his siblings, Linda Kouba (Kenny), Samuel Schauer (Linda) and Russell Schauer (Sharon).

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to a fund that will be set up to support orphanages and women's shelters.
