With sadness, we share the passing of Maxine Evelyn Schmig of Mitchell, South Dakota. Maxine, born on January 16, 1936, passed away on October 7, 2026. Family and friends are welcome to send flowers or leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Leonard Gerlach and Rose Gerlach (Grandrath); her husband Joe; and her parents-in-law, August and Francis Schimg.
She is survived by: her children, Kathy Raymond (Doran) of Mitchell, SD, Marcy Ellensohn of Kyle, TX, Patty O'Connor (Pat) and Bob Schmig of Alexandria, SD; her grandchildren, T. J. (Jen), Chris, Joey, Dakota and Jeremy (Jena); her siblings, Bernice Kollman, Larry Gerlach, Dale Gerlach (Vicki) of Plankinton, SD and Marlys Nelson; and her brother-in-law John Van Gorp (Pam) of Plankinton, SD. She is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 13th 2026 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Will Funeral Chapel (210 E Green Dr, Mitchell, SD 57301). A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 13th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
