He is survived by: his partner Robin of Summit, SD; his children, Tom Ries of Lincoln, NE, John Utne (Theresa) of Summit, SD, Greg Utne (Carrie) of Ortley, SD, Beth Dagett of Sioux Falls, SD, Joey Utne of Ortley, SD, Jenny Utne (Ty Severn) of Sioux Falls, SD, Tynna Bain (Jason) of Brookings, SD, Jessie Phillips (Katie) of Revillo, SD, Sarah Benjamin of Sioux Falls, SD, Nicole Warne (Kyle) of Watertown, SD and Damon Phillips (Beth) of Sioux Falls, SD.; and his brother Bill Utne of Ortley, SD.. He is also survived by his 27 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 22nd 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 23rd 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Ortley Free Lutheran Church (218 Pine St N, Ortley, SD 57256). The inurnment will be held on Friday, October 23rd 2026 at the Ortley Cemetery.
