He was predeceased by: his parents, Wallace L. Stirling and Frances Stirling (Gukeisen); his brothers, Richard Stirling, Wallace F. Stirling, Orren and Lorren; his siblings-in-law, Nina Stirling, Stanford Stenson and Bane Stirling; and his nephew Paul Stirling.
He is survived by: his sisters, Phyllis Stirling of Parkston and Nancy Stenson of Ft. Pierre, SD. He is also survived by 13 nieces and nephews; 27 great-nieces and great-nephews; and 31 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
