She was predeceased by: her parents, Henry Koester and Emma Koester (Fuhrman); her husband Darel Smith; her children, Carol McKenzie (Don) and Steven Smith; her great grandchild Kyler Smith; her brother Theodore Koester (Ted); her sister-in-law Lois Koester; and her nephew Wayne Koester.
She is survived by: her children, Julie Townsend (Gary) and Curtis Smith (Faith Eagle); and her grandchildren, Lynette Puhlman, Vaughn Smith, Bryan Nash, Kevin Smith, Mark Nash, Russell Townsend and Douglas Townsend.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, September 16th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home (1111 S Main St, Aberdeen, SD 57401). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, September 17th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Northwestern United Methodist Church - Mellette (232 4th Ave, Mellette, SD 57461).
