He was predeceased by: his daughter Lunette Marie; his wife Rita Marie VanOverschelde of Mary's Hospital; his granddaughter Hillary Lee; and his siblings, Allen, Jerry, Francis, John and Theresa.
He is survived by: his children, Jess Joseph (Becky), Bernadette Fishburne (JR), David Gates of Rapid City, SD, Collette Elliott (Kim), Paulette Gates of Alton, MO and Anngette Niederbaumer Chancellor (Mike); his siblings, Joe (Peggy), Andy, Victor, Daniel (Mary), Naomi and Kathy; his grandchildren, Noah Lee, Clayton Lee, Casey Nath, Jake Stadel, Elizabeth Gates, Margaret Gates, Owen Niederbaumer and Olivia Niederbaumer; and his great grandchild Theo Nath.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 30th 2025 from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM at the Feigum Funeral Home (808 W Pleasant Dr, Pierre, SD 57501). A rosary will be held on Monday, June 30th 2025 at 6:30 PM at the same location. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, July 1st 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice.
