He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert LaFee and Blanche Parsons (King); his nephew Vernie Hackens; and his parents-in-law, Burle and Velma Dartt.

He is survived by: his wife Linda Dartt; his sons, Mark Van Vleck (Cindy) of Rapid City and Charles Van Vleck of Philip; his grandchildren, David Van Vleck (Casey) of Summerset, Ganeva Van Vleck of Rapid City, Erica Cortez (John) of Portland, Jonathan Aleman of Corpus Christi, LaRee Lafferty (Justin) and Laura Norris; his great grandchildren, Westin Van Vleck, John, Daniel, Elicia, Desiree Cortez and Charlee Lafferty; his sisters, Barbara Hackens (Monty) of Johnson Siding, Ruth Butters (Jerry) of Colorado and Beth Parsons of Philip; his siblings-in-law, Dan Dartt (Bev) of Wall, Burton Dartt (Angie) of Wall, Eddie Dartt of Wall, Janet Feller (Bob) of Rapid City and Betty Babcock (Mick) of Jamestown, ND; and his aunts, Viola Royer (Merle) of Rapid City and Neva LaFee of Idaho. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
