He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul Burkhart and Minnia Burkhart (Kohlmann); his wife Shirley Burkhart (Porter); and his siblings, Rex, Carl, Joseph, Harold, Bill, Inie McClannahan and Marjorie Layton.

He is survived by: his son Robert Burkhart; his grandchildren, Brooke Burkhart and Andrew Burkhart; and his granddaughter-in-law Stephanie Burkhart.
