It is always difficult saying goodbye to someone we love and cherish. Family and friends must say goodbye to their beloved Crystal (Crook) Appel of Redfield, South Dakota, who passed away at the age of 94, on February 18, 2023. She was loved and cherished by many people including : her parents, Albert Earl and Viola Elizabeth Crook (Schafer); her children, Randal Lee, Daniel Edward (Vickie), Jean Ann Tastad, Joylene Cleveland, David Appel (Mary Ann) and Juliann Pendolino (Timothy); her grandchildren, Jeremy Price (Joni), Simon Appel (Heidi), Shawna Paepke (Karl), Joshua Appel (Viviana), Jerad Appel (Audrey), Jacob Appel (Jenna), Kelsey Martinmaas (Damion), Vanessa Appel (Casey McCarville), Tynon Cleveland (Laura), Elizabeth Connelly (Matt), Crystal Miller (Will) and Tony Pendolino; her siblings, Berwyn Crook and Virginia Kirkland; and her husband Edward Appel. She was also cherished by 24 great-grandchildren.

She made many of her children's clothes and hundreds of beautiful quilts, which were donated to raffles, particularly the American Cancer Society, or given to her children and grandchildren for graduations, birthdays, and marriages.
