He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Schlechter and Elsie Schlechter (Grosshuesch); and his grandson Jacob. He is survived by: his wife Doreen Schlechter (Van Driel); his children, Steven Schlechter (Tammy Jo) of Bruce, SD, Kristin Houg (Johnny) of Garretson, SD, Jesse Schlechter (Jenna) of Lakefield, MN and Stacy Schlechter of Parkson, SD; his grandchildren, Cody Schlechter (Megan), Rowdy Warr (Daniel), Trixie Jo Schlechter (Erica), John Dale Houg, Molly Houg, Maverick Houg and Elizabeth Houg; and his great grandchildren, Lettie Jo and Jerrimy Cody Schlechter.
In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted and designated to the VFW and Scotland Good Samaritan Center.
