He was predeceased by: his parents, John Ackerman and Hulda Ackerman (Holzwarth); and his brother Kenneth Ackerman. He is survived by: his wife Phyllis Bauer of Selby; his children, Nadine Hoyt (Dale) of Dickinson, ND and Kyle (Cindy) of Selby; his grandchildren, Cory, Jon, Amy, Angel, Alisha and Anna; and his brother Melvin Ackerman (Eva) of Mound City. He is also survived by 9 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
