He was predeceased by: his parents, Holger Nielsen and Clarice Nielsen (Bergerson); his wife Pamela; his brothers, Clinton Nielsen (Mary Ann) and James Nielsen (Mary); and his pets, Lillie and Olivia.
He is survived by: his children, Eric Nielsen of Sioux Falls, SD and Ann Bain (Jay); his granddaughters, Ella and Ava of Sioux Falls, SD; his brother-in-law Don Lake (Margaret); and his nieces and nephews, Christie Zander (Paul), Dr. Mark Nielsen (Sheryl), Robert Nielsen (Barb), James Nielsen (Sharon), Bonnie Genovay, Sharan Lombardo, Maryann Linnell (Richard) and Geoffrey Nielsen (Susan).
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Grace Lutheran Church or Sioux Falls Humane Society in Dean's memory.
