He was predeceased by: his parents, Earl Brown and Irene Brown (Jacob); his daughter Denise Brown; and his siblings, Barbara Schinderling, Robbie, Terrill, Robert, Donald and Earl.

He is survived by: his grandchildren, Jeremy Brown (Brooke) and Pamela Flynn (Mike); his wife Melanie Brown (Spader); his sons, Jeff Brown and Jeremy Brown (Brooke); his grandchildren, Jordan, Barron, Justus and Bennett of Sioux Falls; his daughter Pamela Flynn (Mike) of Omaha, NE; his grandchildren, Natalie, Haven and Nikki Brown of Denver, CO; his siblings, Debra Combs (Rodney) of De Smet, Cheryl Brown of Sioux Falls, Ronald Brown (Judy) of Lake Preston, Roger Brown (Linda) of Howard and Robyn Swazo of Colorado; and his siblings-in-law, Jackie Brown of De Smet, Marsha Brown of De Smet, Nancy Brown of Huron, SD, Janet Schinderling of Huron and Mahlon Schinderling of Watertown. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and close friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials in honor of Dennis's legacy that the family will present to Firefighters for Healing.
