He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul Schmitz and Shorty Schmitz (Mildred); his brothers, Danny and Richard (Jane); his daughter-in-law Terri Harnell; and his parents-in-law, Lynn and Agnes Bilyeu.
He is survived by: his wife Roxie; his children, Adam (Cat) and Laurie; his siblings, Jane Stork (Jim) and Sam (Susan); and his siblings-in-law, Jane Schmitz, Fran and Jim Grimes. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
