He was predeceased by : his father Dr. Burrell R. Ernst Jr.; his brother John Ernst; and his brother-in-law Ronald Schock. He is survived by : his mother Doris L. Ernst (Moe) of Sioux Falls, SD; his siblings, Sarah Schock of Sioux Falls, SD, William Ernst of Minneapolis, MN and Sally Watton-Holcomb (Michael) of Baytown, TX; his nephews, Gabe (Tiffany) and Aaron; his great-nieces, Riley, Madison and Madelyn; and his great-nephew Jake.

A memorial service was held on Thursday, May 2nd 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Pioneer Lutheran Cemetery.
