With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of LaVerne Catherine Nelson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on October 8, 2025 at the age of 89. She was predeceased by: her parents, William Schleich and Mary Schleich (Kayser); her husband Virgil Nelson; her siblings, Merrill Schleich (Maxine), Nicholas Schleich, Pauline Jensen (Elmer) and Helen Reuss (Marvin); and her in-laws, Noble Nelson (Dorothy), Ernest Nelson (Mary), Merritt Nelson (Maxine), June Olund (Bert), Ila DeBates (Frances) and Joyce Johnson (Eldon).
She is survived by: her sisters-in-law, Alice Schleich and Ellie Pinney. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, and numerous dear friends.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 24th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Prince of Peace Chapel (4500 Prince of Peace Pl, Sioux Falls, SD 57103).
