He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard Lerdal and Joyce Lerdal; and his sister Patricia VanAartsen. He is survived by: his wife Jill Headrick; his daughter Marta Sterrett (Jordon); his granddaughter Noa Sterrett; his siblings, Mike Lerdal (Apidee), Don Lerdal (Darla) and Debra Hoeger-Lerdal (Pete); and his brother-in-law Steve VanAartsen. He is also survived by friends; and many other beloved family members and friends.
A memorial service was held on Friday, September 11th 2026 at 3:00 PM at the Great Bear Ski Valley (5901 E Rice St, Sioux Falls, SD 57110). A celebration of life was held on Friday, September 11th 2026 at 4:00 PM at the same location.

Donations made in Peter's honor will be divided between the Lerdal Family Scholarship at Great Bear and a scholarship established in Peter's name for students in the Ski Area Management program at Gogebic Community College.
