With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Richard Melvin Fonder of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on January 20, 2026 at the age of 79. He was predeceased by: his parents, Hugh Melvin and Margaret Mary Fonder (Weinzetl); his former wife Diane Fonder; his siblings, Joanne Treloar and Robert Fonder; his parents-in-law, Floyd, Mary Ellen Schreurs, Wesley and LaVerne Niebuhr; and his siblings-in-law, Dan Mickalowski, David Niebuhr, Larry Niebuhr, Jerry Schreurs and Jane Porter.

He is survived by: his former wife Diane Niebuhr; his wife Jan Fonder of Sioux Falls, SD; his children, Michelle Houglum (Andrew) of Gilbert, AZ and Matthew Fonder (Cara) of Sioux Falls, SD; his grandchildren, Samuel, Nathaniel, Violet, William Houglum, Harper and Iver Fonder; his siblings, Roger Fonder (Lynda), Ronald Fonder (Corri Peterson) and Julie Majeske (Dan); his siblings-in-law, Sharon Fonder, Linda Mickalowski, Lea Niebuhr, Elaine Niebuhr, Larry Treloar, Charlie Porter and Joyce Fonder; Arizona.
