He was loved and cherished by many people including: his daughters, Gail, Amelia Nicolls (Amy) and Ginny Nicolls; his grandchildren, Mikel DeLeon, Ethan Rocha, Steven Schaaf, Christian Schaaf and Adan E. Rodriguez; his mother Dorathy Hurd (Hicks); and his friend Mark Yockey. He was also cherished by several great-grandchildren.
