He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard Kennedy and Alice Mae Kennedy (Larson); his daughter Ellen; his sister Ruth Kennedy; and his father-in-law Russell Hinkle.
He is survived by: his wife Terri Kennedy; his children, Joseph Kennedy (Sarah) of Midland, SD, Matthew Kennedy (Aggie) of Beresford, Katie Westra (James) of Beresford, Ann Boden (Andrew) of Beresford, Laura Horner (Brent) of Bismarck, ND and Molly Hauck (Ryan) of Avon, SD; his grandchildren, Allie, Bellamy Westra, Isaac, Lillie, Lane Boden, Hattie, Hannah Horner, Emma, Ryan Kennedy, Archie, Lucy Kennedy, Whitley, Wrenley and Watson Hauck; his siblings, Jack Kennedy (Kathleen) of Beresford, Laurel Shearer (Milton) of Torrence, CA and Margaret Kennedy of Beresford; his mother-in-law Phyllis Hinkle of Beresford; and his brothers-in-law, Gary Hinkle (Pat) of Omaha, NE and Mark Hinkle of Leawood, KS. He is also survived by aunt, uncle, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation was held on Thursday, September 10th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the St. Teresa Catholic Church (901 S 3rd St, Beresford, SD 57004). A prayer was held on Thursday, September 10th 2026 at 7:00 PM at the same location. A funeral Mass was held on Friday, September 11th 2026 at 10:30 AM at the St. Teresa's Catholic Church (901 S 3rd St, Beresford, SD 57004). A burial was held on Friday, September 11th 2026 at the St. John's Catholic Cemetery.
Due to failing health and a Parkinson's diagnosis, he retired in 2018.
