It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Leon Backman of Sisseton, South Dakota, who passed away on January 9, 2023, at the age of 96, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by : his parents, Julius Backman and Mary [Jorgensen] Backman; his wife Gladys; his son Bryan; his daughter-in-law Julie Backman; his grandchildren, Allison, Lee and Leah; his great grandchildren, Skyman Jr., Skylynn, LeAndra, Lee and Michael Isiah; and his siblings, Jens Backman, Pearl Ammann, Norma Madsen, Viola Taylor, Marlys Ballhagen, Marlene Eneboe and Eunice Berwald.

He is survived by : his children, Kathy Redday of Sisseton, SD, Leon Jr. of Beardsley, MN, Carolyn [Jim] Senske of Watertown, SD, Tim [Renee] Backman of Lake Preston, SD, Kim [John] Cozad of Wentworth, SD and Carrie Backman of Wilmot, SD; and his brother Donald [June] Backman of Wilmot, SD.. He is also survived by 31 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and a few great-great children.
