He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Smith and Madeline Smith; and his daughter Angela Smith. He is survived by: his wife Mary Smith of Spearfish; his siblings, Charles Smith of Minnesota and Carol Smith of Sioux City, Iowa; his sons, Christian Smith of Dubuque, Iowa and Christopher Conrad; his daughter-in-law Sally of Bellevue, Nebraska; his daughter Jennifer Conrad-Bass of Ohio; his brother-in-law Thomas Kettler of Wisconsin; his grandchildren, Jase West of Georgia, Katherine Bass of Oklahoma, Courtney Shannon of Omaha, Nebraska, Taylor Bishop of Bellevue, Nebraska, Jason Bishop of Bellevue, Nebraska and Zachary Conrad of Omaha, Nebraska.; his nephew Ryan Smith (John Kettler Rebecca Kettler) of Minnesota; and his niece Christine Stich Daryl of Wisconsin. He is also survived by many great-grandchildren, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A memorial service was held on Friday, October 30th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel (450 N 7th St, Spearfish, SD 57783). A burial was held on Friday, October 30th 2026 from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM at the Black Hills National Cemetery.
