He was predeceased by: his parents, John Hovland and Emma Hovland; his brother Dale; and his nephew Michael. He is survived by: his wife Alvina Fleck; his sons, Charles and Steven (Michelle); his grandchildren, Nikayla Barnes, Jon Hovland (Cody Halle) and Stacey Besler; and his nephew Mitchell Hovland.
A memorial has been established to St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
