He was predeceased by: his parents, Eugene Sleep and Ruth Sleep (Moore); and his brother Robert Steele. He is survived by: his wife Karen DeGroot; his children, Jeffrey Sleep (Jodi) of Spearfish, Matthew Sleep (Deanna) of Rapid City and Melissa Dean (Boyd) of Spearfish; his grandchildren, Samantha Anderson (Carl) of Rutland, Sydney Meyer (Benjamin) of Belle Fourche, Carson Sleep (Damaris) of Spearfish, Callie Duque (Luis) of Rapid City, Tessa Sundermann (Rylee) of Rapid City, Rylie Sleep of Rapid City, Amanda Dean of Spearfish, Lyndey Dean of Spearfish and Natalie Dean of Spearfish; and his sister Gloria Steele. He is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial has been established.
