William Hughes Obituary
With profound sadness, we say goodbye to William Hughes of Spearfish, South Dakota, whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of many. William left this world on March 12, 2025 at the age of 92, leaving a void in the lives of so many people. You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided and share it with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, William Arthur Hughes, Sr. and Margaret Mary Hughes (Keller); and his brothers, James and Kenneth. He is survived by: his wife Linda; his children, Doug Hughes (Paige), David Hughes (Cathy), Theresa Ferdinand (Paul) and William Hughes (Tamra); and his sisters, Jeanette Hoy, Patricia Freeman (Donald) and Marsh Hughes. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 20th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the St Joseph Catholic Church (844 N 5th St, Spearfish, SD 57783). A vigil service will be held on Thursday, March 20th 2025 at 6:00 PM at the same location. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, March 21st 2025 at 10:00 AM at the same location. A burial will be held on Friday, March 21st 2025 from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at the Black Hills National Cemetery (20901 Pleasant Valley Dr, Sturgis, SD 57785).
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to The Bill and Linda Hughes Black Hills State University Yellowjacket Foundation Athletic Scholarship or to St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Spearfish, SD, honoring and remembering Bill's favorite saying: "You shouldn't go through life with catcher's mitts on both hands…you need to be able to throw something back!".
