It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Chaplain David Peterson of Sturgis, South Dakota, born in Lemmon, South Dakota, who passed away on October 19, 2022, at the age of 81, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by : his parents, Robert Peterson and Winnie Peterson; his brother Charles; and his siblings-in-law, Art, Rosemary and Ruth.

He is survived by : his wife Sandra of Sturgis; his children, Jeffrey Peterson (Lili) of West Point, J'Lane Dunning (Peter) of Beaufort and Julie Durfield (Paul) of Hattiesburg, Mississippi.; his great grandchildren, James and Elizabeth; his siblings, Robert Peterson (Karen) of Lemmon, Rolland Peterson (Jane) of Lemmon, Kenneth Peterson (Pauline) of Aberdeen and Delores Long of Lemmon; and also, Jessica (Joshua), Kayci, Sydney (Ian), Olivia (Blaine), Benjamin, Joseph, Anna, Stephen, Clara, Megan, Faith, Ginny, Caleb, Hudson, Heath, Colter and Jeremiah.

“To the entire Peterson family, it is with such deep regret to get this very sad news. Chaplain Pete and I worked together at Fort Bragg and he will be missed not only by me but literally by too many to count. Dave also officiated at my wedding back in 1986 at Fort Monmouth, NJ. Dave was one of my all time favorite chaplains and friend. He will be missed but always remembered for sure. Thanks Dave, for having shared our time together.
