With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Barbara Sue Bortnem of Volga, South Dakota, who passed away on October 1, 2025 at the age of 76. Family and friends are welcome to send flowers or leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
In the sacred silence of farewell, Barbara is released into the embrace of eternity, knowing that her light will continue to shine brightly in the tapestry of the lives of her loved ones. And as her memory is carried forward, may comfort be found in the knowledge that love is eternal, and that Barbara's spirit lives on in the beauty that surrounds us.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Glenn Bortnem and Hazel Bortnem (McCord); and her siblings, Wayne, Steve and Sandy.
She is survived by: her daughter Malena; and her friends, Caija and Diana Fischbach.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 5th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Rude's Funeral Home (105 W 8th St S, Brookings, SD 57006). A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 6th 2025 at 10:30 AM at the Lake Campbell Lutheran Church (46610 219th St, Volga, SD 57071).
